THE BULLRING

Due to the increasing interest in the bullfighting celebration, is approved to build, in 1829, a bullring, before the current one, just for five years, but it was extended its utilization for many years more. The time passed, and this bullring was aging and deteriorating, up to the point of provoking disaster due to a bull that destroyed doors and barriers, representing a serious danger for the public. It was in that time when a popular subscription was opened for the construction of a new bullring. On 9th November 1916 an anonymous society was constituted with the denomination of "Taurina Albacete". This society agreed that the new bullring was passing to be a property of the people from Albacete. The areas were bought on the right side of the Fair, with an extension of 18.000 square meters. The works began in 17th February 1917 and were finished rapidly. On 9th September of the same year it was inaugurated. On the following year, the layings were reformed, with Novelda's stone, which still exists at present, and they put the refuges of wood into the bullring. In 1921 the cover was changed.Its appraisal was fixed in approximately 10.000 spectators. In the esplanade that leads to the principal door, it was installed " Chicuelo II's " sculpture.
