THE CATHEDRAL

7,Virgen de Los Llanos Square. The Cathedral of Albacete is the most important church of the city. It was begun almost five centuries ago. The main face was started to build in 1945. The lateral front was done in 1960 and it is made in new Romanic style. Inside the Cathedral, we stop in the impressive columns. The shaft is channeled and ends in a capital of great beauty; that is why it forms a set of the best quality of the Renaissance art in Spain. These columns are of Ionic order. The vaults were constructed about 1700. The first ones, made in baroque style, sank. From 1921 till 1960 the large windows of the principal apse and the new altar of the white marble are done. Under the central ship, we look at the paintings on linen of the father C. Escribá , that fill completely the parameters, and that were established in 1958. The lateral door was done in 1700 approximately, but it does not seem as now, indeed it was in 1960 when it was constructed as now one sees; therefore, it is the most modern part of the whole work.
